Cynthia Benton MD

Dr. Benton went to college at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, Where she received a B.S. Degree in Biology with Honors And Distinction.  While at Stanford, she was awarded the President’s Award for Academic Excellence in the freshman year and the Boothe Prize for Excellence in writing. Dr. Benton completed medical school at Baylor College Of Medicine in Houston, Texas.  Upon graduation from Baylor, she received the Hilde Bruch Award for Excellence In Psychiatry.  Dr. Benton completed her residency in general adult psychiatry at the University Of California At San Francisco, where she received The Simon Award for teaching. 

Licenses & Certifications

Dr. Benton is board certified in general adult psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Interests

Cynthia Benton, M.D. grew-up in Houston, TX.  She currently lives In Austin, TX with her two children, too many rescue dogs to count, three guinea pigs and two cats.  She enjoys going on hikes, riding her bicycle and walking her dogs on the Barton Creek Greenbelt.

Professional Experience

Dr. Benton currently works full time in her private practice. She has been in private practice for twenty years. She has worked in a variety of other clinical settings in the past. After graduating from her residency, she served as clinical faculty at Langley Porter/UCSF in the women, mood and hormone clinic. She also worked as a psychiatric consultant for Walden House’s residential facility, treating patients with psychiatric, and substance abuse problems.  She then served as adjunct clinical faculty at the Austin Medical Education Programs where she supervised psychiatry residents in their fourth year.  At the same time, she worked for what is now Austin Integral Care managing the acute crisis residential unit.
